I work in one of the three departments under Low Speed Engineering Small Bore and am involved with Fuel & Control equipment. My work consists of detailed design of engine components, including the hydraulics on our electronically managed engines, and updating existing designs. We draw up design documentation and provide technical assistance for building the engines. Reliability is crucial for our product and our engines are really conservative in their design as far as this aspect goes. We carry out optimisation in small steps as an ongoing and constant process. Once the engines have been built in Korea for example, it’s not unusual for some of us to travel over there and see the finished product. Moreover it provides an opportunity for receiving feedback for the designs we have been involved in. That is a real motivational factor. We are 11 employees in my department, LES1, which is involved in this area. In addition we work closely with two other subdivisions in LES (Low Speed Engineering Small Bore), but also with the other departments in the building such as Low Speed Engineering Large Bore Design, Operation, Production Support and R&D. I have held my current job for more than 8 years and I really like it.
