I am an electrical engineer and I develop software for engine control systems. We are currently in the process of making two software releases, which of course include a great deal of administration and testing. Other periods typically involve more development. In our day-to-day work, we primarily work with C++, which is the software development language. Moreover, we use Synergy, which is a software translation system used for managing software translation.  I am motivated by working with large engines combined with software development. I find it extremely interesting.

We have become very project-oriented, especially in the last 3-4 years. The project-oriented mindset promotes the social aspect in the department. Previously, we worked with our own things, so the project work fosters a team spirit. Overall, I believe that 80 percent of our time is spent on projects. We work with a method called SCRUM, among others. This is a method that can be used to break down project work into smaller parts, which makes the project more manageable and accessible. We are a very individual department, which I think most departments are. However, especially when we run a release of a new software, we spend much time at e.g. the engine builder where we often meet people from the other departments, which is very fruitful.

I like that the company has a green profile. This is supported by our Green Ship project, which is an open cooperation with other companies on reducing ship pollution. Moreover, there is a great team spirit which I experience e.g. in the company’s running club of which I am a member. Something that characterises MAN Diesel & Turbo is that knowledge sets the agenda. If you possess the right knowledge you can have great influence. You do not necessarily have to go through the fixed management structure to get influence.
